Michael Fatali is on a mission to share the beauty of Gods creations and to celebrate the Land and Spirit. He is been capturing and creating with light for 17 years. All of Michaels images are made with natural light, no colour filters and not digitally enhanced. The type of photograph is called cibachrome. Cibachrome is a rare hand-made photograph that is created in a darkroom, using optics and light. These works of art are archival, which means that the color will not fade and will last for generations. It is a treat and a rarity to view this type of photography, from the use of natural light to being handmade in the darkroom. He is very proud to still continue to use this older technology to create photographs instead of using the new digital way to print a photograph. Michael Fatali continues to use this beautiful artistic way to take photographs, so that you will continue to view and feel the emotion and beauty of these sacred places. Michael uses an 8x10 View Camera. The size of the film is actually 8x10 inches! He is able to capture incredible detail, and the depth of field is so great that the images are in focus from the closet object to the furthest. With a lot of patience and skill he is able to capture the light in a way that we may never see. Fatali was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1965. When he was six, his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona and Fatali was introduced to the vast and wondrous American West. By the time he was in high school, Fatali had become deeply intrigued with the interplay of color and light on the land. Photography became the means to express the beauty and inspiration he felt in his developing relationship with the Western Landscape. While initially photographing in 35mm format, Fatali quickly became entranced with the clarity of expression possible in large format photography. Juggling various jobs, including a brief but successful stint as a rock band photographer, Fatali subsisted and continued the development of his photographic art.
His passion for the mysterious landscape and luminous colors of the Colorado
Plateau prompted a move to the wild slickrock country of Northern Arizona. Now
able to extensively explore the remote back country including the mystical and
(at the time) relatively unknown slot canyons, Fatali was able to evolve his
unique photographic voice.
It is a true gift and a blessing that he has been given, and it is his life
mission to share the beauty!
